JOB CREATION, CAPE HIGH-TECH BUSINESS, ECONOMY
Rep. Atsalis is optimistic about our future, as the economy
is showing signs of vibrant life and strong growth. He is
particularly encouraged about the District’s prospects because
good planning has positioned the Cape for future
prosperity.
"We have learned the lessons of boom and bust of the 1980s
and 1990s," Rep. Atsalis said. "The towns’ local comprehensive
plans will help stimulate the synergy of business activity in
targeted growth areas to create jobs and discourage sprawl."
In tandem with those accomplishments, Rep. Atsalis secured
funding for Cape Cod Community College last year in its
mission to fund a new computer technology building for its
West Barnstable campus, which will help provide computer and
business training for current and future generations.
"I commend the College and President Kathleen Schatzberg
for their foresight on this project, which will allow our
young people to compete in this increasingly high-tech economy
and earn a paycheck that will allow them to live and raise
families on Cape Cod."
Also, last year Rep. Atsalis fought hard to secure $150,000
for the Cape Cod Incubator Project, which is run by the Cape
Cod Chamber of Commerce. The Project’s mission is to foster
burgeoning high-tech business ventures. Hopefully many owners
and workers of these new businesses will come from the ranks
of students educated at 4C’s computer-tech program. Rep.
Atsalis also secured $75,000 for the Cape Cod Technology
Council’s Educational Resources Center, which seeks to tie in
Cape business and Cape schools and serve as a clearinghouse of
information to support high-tech training and business. "I’ve
been working on tying these integral pieces together to serve
as an economic engine and support system for our year-round
businesses on Cape Cod," Rep. Atsalis said.
